Consolidation StudyChester Township & Chester Borough Consolidation StudyIn 2008, officials in Chester Township and Chester Borough initiated an effort to explore the potential benefits of consolidating into a single municipality. Following a public hearing in February 2009 before a joint meeting of the Township and Borough councils, the governing bodies of the Township and Borough received approval from the State of New Jersey Department of Community Affairs' Local Finance Board to create a Joint Consolidation Study Commission and establish a process for a consolidation study. On August 2, 2011, the Chester Township Police Department and the Chester Township Office of Emergency Management began using the social networking site, Twitter, to broadcast important public safety information to its residents. Through Twitter, residents will be able to receive real-time information regarding such things as road closures, special weather announcements and public safety bulletins. Most recently, Township police officers and emergency management officials utilized Twitter with great success during Hurricane Irene. During the storm, residents following the Township's page were able to receive real-time storm, weather and road closure information, not only from Township officials, but also from county and state emergency management officials as well. Home Medical Waste DisposalSome hazards of improperly disposing of home medical waste may infect other people who come in contact with trash, unwanted or expired medicines could be harmful to children and adults and if found in the trash may be stolen for unregulated use. Antibiotics poured down the drain can kill beneficial microbes and bacteria in spectic systems. Click on "Home Medical Waste Disposal" (in blue) for more information on where to properly dispose of. Household Hazardous Waste FacilityHousehold Hazardous Waste (HHW) Disposal and/or recycling is easy and convenient. This facility is located on Gold Mine Road (off Route 206) in Mount Olive and is open on selected Tuesday (9:00-12:00), Friday (9:00-12:00) and Saturday (8:00-11:00) mornings. Please do not show up to the HHW Facility without first calling 973-829-8006 and making and appointment. Using the facility is available to Morris County residents and is also free of charge for most items. For more information about the materials accepted and not accepted please click on "Household Hazardous Waste Facility" (in blue). If you are not sure about a specific material and how to get rid of it please call 973-829-8006 for proper instructions. Some acceptable items are pesticides, oil-based paints, stains, antifreeze, motor oil, gasoline, pool chemicals, darkroom chemicals, computers and monitors, TV's. Some unacceptable materials are latex paint, empty containers, tires, construction waste, medical waste and explosives. MCMUA Database of Facilities that Accept Electronics (Computers, TV's) in Morris CountyBest Buy stores accept nearly everything electronic for free and Staples stores accept all but TV's. Residents may also make an appointment to drop off electronics at the MCMUA facility located on Gold Mine Road, off Route 206 by calling 973-829-8006. Recycling BatteriesFiguring out how to dispose of batteries can be easy. Throw alkaline AA, C, D (non-hazardous and use-once) dry-cell batteries into the trash; recycle rechargeable batteries using call2recycle.org drop-off boxes (located at Lowes, Home Depot); and take all other types of batteries to the Household Hazardous Waste Facility on Gold Mine Road (off Route 206) in Mount Olive. Residents may bring lithium or round (button) batteries to the Municipal Building located at 1 Parker Road for recycling. |
