The system will contact landline and cell phones in case of an emergency within a predetermined radius. On August 2, 2011, the Chester Township Police Department and the Chester Township Office of Emergency Management began using the social networking site, Twitter, to broadcast important public safety information to its residents. Through Twitter, residents will be able to receive real-time information regarding such things as road closures, special weather announcements and public safety bulletins. Most recently, Township police officers and emergency management officials utilized Twitter with great success during Hurricane Irene. During the storm, residents following the Township's page were able to receive real-time storm, weather and road closure information, not only from Township officials, but also from county and state emergency management officials as well.
