Chester now has its own Community Garden!

Grow your own organic fruits, vegetables and flowers in an ideal setting right in your own community at Highlands Ridge Park, 100 North Road, Chester. There's fencing against deer, woodchucks, rabbits and other critters and it is located in full sun. Wheelbarrows, compost, watering cans and water are located on site. How-to Programs will be offered throughout the gardening season and gardeners can rent several 8' x 16' plots. Rental fee for residents of the Chesters is $30 per plot for one year; $75 per plot for three years. Rental fee for non-residents is $40 per plot for one year and $100 per plot for three years. Registration is ongoing at the Township building, upstairs at the Zoning Office. Garden plots will be filled on a first-come, first-served basis.

Anyone interested must complete the Registration Form, Hold Harmless Agreement and Membership Agreement and mail or deliver it to Chester Township Environmental Commission, Community Garden Registration, 1 Parker Road, Chester NJ 07930 along with the appropriate fee.

Philadelphia Flower Show on March 6th

The Chester Garden Club is organizing a bus trip to the Philadelphia Flower Show on March 6, 2012. The Flower Show will introduce visitors to a tropical experience that blends next-stage digital technology with the natural beauty and rich culture of the Hawaiian Islands. Guests will have fun, learn, and be wowed by real-time floral competitions, the world’s largest lettuce wall, internationally renowned speakers, and a new layout of displays. Cost: $50 (includes round-trip bus ticket, admission to the show, and gratuity). Bus leaves at 8:30 AM at St. Lawrence Church, 375 Main Street, Chester and returns to Chester by 6:00 PM.
